The Na Tree
The Na tree was declared the national tree of Sri Lanka in 1986. It was selected as the national tree due to its high botanical and cultural value. Its scientific name is 'Mesua nagassarium / Mesua ferrea'.
The Na tree which is native to Sri Lanka grows abundantly in tropical regions. This plant which grows up to about 100 feet tall has dark green leaves. Its young leaves are reddish in color while the flowers are white. It is a flower with a pleasant fragrance. The Na tree also has medicinal properties. It is a good medicine for illnesses such as stomachache, fever and constipation. The Na tree has a plant of historical and cultural important 😊.
The blue water lily (Nymphaea nouchali) is the national flower of Sri Lanka. The blue water lily is an aquatic plant that belongs to the family Nymphaeaceae. These flowers grow throughout the year in the dry zone of this country. Blue lily flower is a pleasant light blue colored fragrant flower. Also its root and seeds are medicinal and good for the body. The blue water lily is a holy flower with cultural and religious value.
The Sri Lankan Junglefowl
The Sri Lanka junglefowl is an endemic bird of this country. This bird known by the scientific name Gallus lafayetii can be seen in all regions of Sri Lanka.The Ceylon junglefowl live in forests, small woods and protected areas across the country. The bird has an attractive combination of colors.
This bird has bright red wings. Its comb is red with a yellow mark in the center and its wattle is red. Their diet includes insects, grains, worms and fruits. Also this bird is naturally aggressive. For all these reasons the Sri Lanka junglefowl was chosen as the national bird of the country. But for many reasons the Ceylon junglefowl is at risk in Sri Lanka. We must take care of these animals 🥰.
